Cecília Costa (Caldas da Rainha, 1971), lives and works in Lisbon.
Graduated in Visual Arts at ESAD (Escola Superior de Arte e Design) from Caldas da Rainha, attended the course of Mathematics at Universidade de Aveiro.
The plastic research developed by Cecília Costa is based on an investigation about mathematical and symmetrical aspects, focusing particularly on the division between the left and the right side of the brain. Her multifaceted body of work uses several mediums such as drawing, photography, installation and video, the common conceptual denominator is the binomial left-right in constructive process of language, on how the division determinates specific human physiognomies or how it changes special perception.
Exhibits regularly since 1997, among others, the following solo shows are highlighted Bienal de Sidney, Australia, in 2004, selected by curator Isabel Carlos; Albedo (2014), Máquina de Chilrear (2011) and Carvão (2009), at Baginski, Galeria/ Projectos, Lisbon; 100 Desenhos, no Centro de Artes de Tavira (2009); Pli, no CAV – Centro de Artes Visuais de Coimbra (2005).
